Glide-19 project

The COVID-19 pandemic has severely impacted societies all around the world. Due to the sudden emergence of the pandemic and lack of information healthcare professionals worked with lots of uncertainties.

Despite the large efforts of each country, professional education and training of healthcare operators on the management of COVID-19 scattered over EU countries, resulting in a lack of comprehensive and integrated approaches for Vocational Education and Training (VET) programs. Therefore, to be prepared and act synergically in the current but also in a potential future pandemic situation, the EU needs a system for exchanging and sharing healthcare knowledge and (best)practices. It is also essential that the information and knowledge about the pandemic covers every aspect of the illness, including prevention and post-recovery rehabilitation (i.e., long COVID).

The overall goal of the GLIDE-19 project is therefore to support healthcare professionals in achieving enhanced skills and competencies to manage current and (possible future) pandemics by developing a multidimensional training program.

The overall goal of the GLIDE-19 project is therefore to support healthcare professionals in achieving enhanced skills and competencies to manage current and (possible future) pandemics by developing a multidimensional training program.

Objectives

The main objective of GLIDE-19 is to support healthcare professionals in achieving enhanced skills and competences to efficiently manage current and future possible pandemics. For this, GLIDE-19 will develop a vocational training program at EU level, the Care Competency Learning Course on COVID-19. This training program will cover several crucial aspects of COVID-19, including prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation.

Methodologies

Within the GLIDE-19 project several methodologies will be implemented to develop the GLIDE-19 training program. These range from a literature review on best practices and guidelines, organisation focus groups to explore the needs of healthcare professionals, and co-creation sessions to further design and develop the program based on the needs and wishes of the healthcare professionals.

Outcomes

GLIDE-19 will develop: 1) A methodology for pandemic management: this methodology will be developed based on experiences and best practices in the management of pandemics. 2) The Care Competency Learning Course on COVID-19: this (scalable) training program will cover the different stages, ranging from prevention to long-term care and rehabilitation. 3) An e-learning platform: this platform will aim at increasing mutual learning through exchanging experiences and evidence within and between countries.

Focus groups

Between February and April focus group interviews are being held with healthcare professionals, with the aim to explore needs and identify best practices.

2023, Nov

Second project meeting in Netherlands

The second transnational meeting of the Glide19 Erasmus+ Project has been hosted by Maastricht University. The partners discussed all project results, assessing progress both qualitatively and quantitatively.

2024, Mar

Glide-19 Training (C1)

The training activity on GLIDE-19 methodology will be held in Heildeberg in April. It is a cornerstone of the project: during training C1, participants will acquire the competencies, skills, and methodology to effectively manage the COVID-19 disease through our new platform.

2024, Oct

Final meeting in Spain

In October 2024 the final transnational meeting will take place in Spain. The project's impact will be assessed, examining both qualitative and quantitative indicators previously identified. There will be also discussions about the future of the training course and its long-term sustainability.

The Glide-19 platform

Besides the development of the GLIDE-19 training, one of the other key outputs within the GLIDE-19 project will entail the development of an interactive e-learning platform. This easy-to-use platform will be based on the MOOC model, or Massive Open Online Courses, and developed using a co-design approach. Within this platform the GLIDE-19 methodology and course will be hosted. Central components of this platform include principles of mutual learning by exchanging experiences, evidence, and results between healthcare professionals, also between different countries. This platform will therefore not serve as a repository only but allows for interaction between users and content owners. The content of the platform will be eventually offered in the following languages (i.e., project partners languages): English, Spanish, Italian, German, and Dutch.

Besides raising awareness, we hope to increase knowledge exchange and communication between healthcare professionals who work in COVID-19 care or have experience working in times of COVID-19.
